Not all Scots are mad but I am

Semana Santa in Alicante during April, the summer is coming back and the temperature is warming up just nice. It is time for the large parades and fiestas to celebrate this very special week in the Spanish calendar.

We call it Easter and we give presents of Easter eggs to the children, in Spain it is a religious occasion and they celebrate it somewhat different.

Located in the Sierra de Aitana just 24km inland from Benidorm on the Costa Blanca South. Guadalest is a very beautiful village with a historical castle which dates from Moorish occupation in the 8th century.

Guadalest is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the Costa Blanca, seeing many visitors from all over the World throughout the year.

Occupying a stunning position nicknamed the Eagles Nest, is carved into the very mountain itself. Precariously perched on the top of the mountain, giving stunning views of the valley below leading to the Mediterranean on one side and a large colourful reservoir on the other. A breathtaking drive up the mountains winding road with fabulous views make the journey worthwhile.
The video gives you an idea what to expect but until you see Guadalest personally you will not see it’s true beauty.
The video was shot in January.

The village has cobbled footpaths, museums, gift shops, crafts, restaurants, bars and whitewashed buildings showing its Islamic origin.  There is also a solar boat trip available on the reservoir below, yes a boat powered only by solar power and so quiet you can hear yourself think.  The winding pathways you must take to reach the top of Guadalest are lined with charming little shops, full of local product and gift items. You can carry on to the village square at the top, where you will get spectacular views of the mountain and the turquoise reservoir , absolutely stunning and worth a visit.

Outside of the USA there is not a better place to play golf than Spain. The sun shines 320 days a year and we don’t see that much rain. In fact it is a golfers paradise and in Murcia you have some of the best golf clubs all within 20 minutes of each other.  Ryanair have cheap flights to San Javier airport all the year round and hire a car or a quick taxi ride takes you just 20 minutes to reach the most of them. There is a new airport opening next year ( Corvera) which is even closer and in a few years time one of Europe’s biggest theme parks will open. Think drop the wife and kids off and they enjoy themselves whilst you have a game of golf. There is lots of projects there with key in hand properties at prices less than what they were 10 years ago. Just drop me an e-mail and I will send you information.  [email protected]
